Teresa Del Rio

Teresa Del Rio was a 20 year old college student when
she was murdered on June 7,1999 in Los Angeles, California. The suspect, now a defendant is a "shooter for gangs" and is also a suspect in two prior murders. Teresa and her friends were driving when the shooter, on foot, started to shoot at her car hitting Teresa. Her friends escaped. Teresa's website www.teresadelrio.net details her story, her life, and her parents on going efforts to see that justice is served for their only child. Like so many innocent victims, they have a family that would like to see an end of gun violence and homicide.

Through Teresa's murder the "Teresa Del Rio Memorial Scholarship Foundation" was started at Glendale Community College, in Glendale, California by KABC AM Talk Radio General Manager, Bill Sommers in 1999. It provides needed financial assistance to students who desire to further their education. In 2004, the 5th scholarship will be presented to a student at a dinner/presentation.

In 1999 Dr. Allen Mathies of the Los Angeles "American Red Cross Blood Services" created the annual "Teresa Del Rio Memorial High School Blood Drive". Today Over 200 High Schools in Southern California arrange a competition to bring in the most blood. Four top High School winners will receive Teresa's award. The 5th annual awards will be presented to the top High School at the Los Angeles Blood Services annual meeting and luncheon.

At Age 12, Teresa Marched With “Turn The Tide” Stop The Violence March. At Age 20 She Would Become The Third Victim Of A Shooter For Gangs.

Teresa's mother would like Teresa to be remembered. She and her husband have been awaiting a trial for almost 5 years!
